RE: UPCOMING CONFERENCE:
The Internet is a great thing and can be used in so many positive ways; however, it also poses a major threat to children, who are increasingly targeted online by sexual predators. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has made prosecuting these crimes one of the highest priorities of the Department of Justice. He recently announced Project Safe Childhood, which aims to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation of crimes against children. This conference will discuss many aspects of these crimes and how to make successful cases. Some of the items discussed and presenters at this event will include: T Project Safe Childhood overview - Marsha Clevenger, U.S. Attorney’s Office T Discussion of applicable federal laws - Karen Whatley, U.S. Attorney’s Office Forensics - Trey Whatley, FBI; Resources from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children - Christine Feller; Interviewing techniques for child victims - Martha Finnegan, FBI, Washington, DC.
