PROJECT SAFE CHILDHOOD TRAINING CONFERENCE ON DECEMBER 11, 2006 (CONFERENCE CHECK-IN & BREAKFAST WILL BE AT 8:30 A.M.) AT JACKSONVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER, JACKSONVILLE, AR TO: LAW ENFORCEMENT COORDINATING COMMITTEE MEMBERS, EASTERN DISTRICT OF ARKANSAS FM: BUD CUMMINS, UNITED STATES ATTORNEY, EASTERN DISTRICT, MARSHA CLEVENGER, ASSISTANT U.S. ATTORNEY, PROJECT SAFE CHILDHOOD COORDINATOR RE: UPCOMING CONFERENCE: The Internet is a great thing and can be used in so many positive ways; however, it also poses a major threat to children, who are increasingly targeted online by sexual predators. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has made prosecuting these crimes one of the highest priorities of the Department of Justice. He recently announced Project Safe Childhood, which aims to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation of crimes against children. This conference will discuss many aspects of these crimes and how to make successful cases. Some of the items discussed and presenters at this event will include: T Project Safe Childhood overview - Marsha Clevenger, U.S. Attorney’s Office T Discussion of applicable federal laws - Karen Whatley, U.S. Attorney’s Office Forensics - Trey Whatley, FBI; Resources from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children - Christine Feller; Interviewing techniques for child victims - Martha Finnegan, FBI, Washington, DC. The conference will be held at the Jacksonville Community Center (directions below). We have applied for CLEST credit. You may register for the conference by completing the attached form and sending it to Mandy Warford, LECC Coordinator, P.O. Box 1229, Little Rock, AR 72203. Please register early to ensure seating. Registration fee for the conference is $15.00 per person (checks or cash only please). This fee is required in advance. Slots will not be reserved without payment. Refreshments and conference materials will be provided. Substitutions are allowed; however, no refunds will be given after the registration deadline.
