RE: UPCOMING CONFERENCE:
The United States Attorney’s Office is pleased to announce another training opportunity brought to you by the Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council (ATAC). This course was developed in response to your numerous requests for training specific to Arkansas. This one day training event is designed to train local and state law enforcement officers about the specific threats and terrorist related activities seen in Arkansas since 9/11. Speakers will include Terrorism Prosecutor and ATAC Coordinator AUSA Joe Volpe; FBI Supervisory Special Agent Harlen Bell, past supervisor of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, FBI Little Rock; ICE Supervisory Special Agent Rick Gabbard, Resident Agent’s Office Fort Smith; and Special Agent Jim Schanandore, Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator, FBI Little Rock. In addition, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms will provide some hands on training with the terrorists’ weapon of choice, the AK-47. The training will cover past cases and incidents that have occurred in Arkansas as well as new trends seen in the Natural State. Topics which will be discussed include: ‘ Specific Arkansas Cases ‘ Current National Security Issues in Arkansas ‘ Document Fraud ‘ Encountering Foreign Nationals ‘ Identifying Visitors from Special Interest Countries ‘ Table Top Exercise for Officers Responding to a WMD Event The conference will be held at the Arkansas State Police Headquarters, #1 State Police Plaza Drive in Little Rock, in the ADEQ Commission Room.
